Pottery wheel adventure, anyone?
Just became te new owner of this thing:
According to the serial tag, it's an Amaco model 4-402 manual wheel. Old school! It's heavy, solid cast iron tub and metal everything else. It's a little spindly looking, but it's actually built like a truck. I'm going to wash it down a bt and see how it ticks and see what needs to be serviced before I start messing with it. I'm fortunate it's all in one piece and appears to be ready to use right now.. stay tuned.

You know, I haven't the foggiest idea. This one was given to me, not bought.. and I don't think I saw a price listed anywhere in my searches to find out more about it. After using it a bit, I think I'd just as soon have an electric model. This kicking thing is for the birds.

DeleteI learned to throw on an electric wheel and had been for about ten years before I came across one of these for purchase - I rather appreciated the new challenge of learning to throw on a manual treadle wheel, and now when I get back on an electric wheel it just feels too easy and disconnected. I suppose it's not for everyone...I paid $250 for mine but I've seen them on Ebay for $500-$600.

ReplyDeleteI am looking to buy a Amaco treadle wheel, it is very old school, and is going to cost me 120.00 bucks. I was wondering the bat on the top is roached can I purchase another one from brent/amaco
ReplyDeleteNo....You're on your own as far as help is concerned with Amaco. I own a three-legged Model 4. Called them for pictures to insure proper re-assembly. Young help desk clerk had no clue as to what I was talking about. Sorry.
DeleteCroupier, did you ever find anything on your wheel? I just bought a 3 legged AMACO kick wheel with a treadle. AMACO kept saying it was a model 4 with 4 legs and an elbow rest, but thats not quite what ours looks like!

Did you ever find parts or find a workaround for this wheel? I just bought one for $100 and it looks exactly the same but came with a motor added.
